Flying in New Caledonia can be a lot of fun!  For beginners it's just the place as the traffic is low enough for any student to learn without being distracted.  Of course, you would have to speak French though!

If you really want to learn the basics and essentials of flying then you need to go to La Ouenghi Soaring Association.  On this site, acvv.webfg.net/, you can find all the information you want plus contact details for booking a joy-flight and why not, even your first lesson!

If it's powered flight you want, then the Aéroclub Calédonien is the place for you.  They have a well organized website http://membres.lycos.fr/aeroclubcal/ (in French and English) to satisfy most of your questions.

Having flown on gliders and planes, I must say, though, that gliding is by far the most enjoyable in every sense of the word.  But, it's not a sensation that I can describe with pen and paper so come and try it out!
